Imphal: A doctor of a private clinic was injured when unidentified unknown armed men opened fire targeting him at Imphal in Manipur on Saturday night.
Police said Dr. Moirangthem Dhanabir, the Managing Director of the Diabetes Healthcare Research Centre (DHRC) at Porompat, Imphal East district was shot by unknown armed men at his office on Saturday night.

According to a police officials , three men posing as patients arrived at the DHRC around 6 pm on Saturday. After consulting with Dr. Dhanabir, a heated argument ensued. Suddenly, one of the visitors pulled out a pistol and fired at the doctor, injuring his left arm.
Following the shooting, the assailants fled the scene, firing six rounds at an ambulance parked outside the DHRC office.
Dr. Dhanabir was rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal East, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the motive behind the attack.
No underground group or individual has claimed responsibility for the incident yet. However, Manipur police suspect it may be linked to extortion attempts by underground groups or other criminal elements.
