The deceased Zosangkim Hmar

Guwahati: The Hmar Students’ Association (HSA) has strongly condemned the horrific killing of an innocent woman and the burning of 17 houses in Jairolpokpi village in Manipur‘s Jiribam.

The victim, Zosangkim Hmar, a teacher at HermonDew English Junior High School in Jairolpokpi, was reportedly shot and burned alive inside her home.

“The brutal killing of a dedicated teacher and the unprovoked attack on a peaceful village are not only inhumane but also a blatant disregard for human decency,” said the HSA in a press release.

“We, the HSA Jiribam JHQ, condemn the abhorrent and barbaric killing of Zosangkim Hmar in the strongest possible terms,” the organization said.

Hmar, a mother of three, had chosen to remain in the village despite growing tensions to fulfill her duties as a teacher for the few remaining students.

The HSA has also raised serious concerns about the ineffectiveness of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) stationed in Jairolpokpi.

The students’ body said that the attack, which lasted for over an hour, occurred “right under the nose of the CRPF.”

“The security forces should hang their heads in shame for their failure to uphold their solemn oath of protecting Indian citizens irrespective of caste, creed, and religion,” the HSA stated.

The association has urged the Central government to immediately replace the “lethargic and erring security forces” posted in Jairolpokpi.
