The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur on Sunday reached to 2,235 with 714 active and 1,521 recovered cases, official sources said.

In the past 24 hours, 59 persons including 43 male, 16 female, were confirmed positive at the VRDLs of the RIMS and the JNIMS, and the district hospitals of Thoubal and Ukhrul, a press release said

All, except five persons from Thoubal and 1 from Imphal West, are returnees from other states, it added.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

In the past 24 hours, one person was discharged from COVID care centre Thoubal after he was found COVID 19 free on RT PCR test.

The government has intensified actions against the increasing trend of locally transmitted, sporadic cases occurring in some parts of the state.

In Thoubal district, active case search among 6,475 people completed and 10 new cases could be detected. Further surveillance is going on. In Churachandpur district,545 contacts of an employee of a private lab were identified. 143 of them are found negative and results of the remaining are awaited.

Social distancing, wearing of face mask, cough etiquette and avoidance of unnecessary travel are scientifically proven, effective means to prevent COVID 19 pandemic.

All are requested to adhere strictly to these measures to protect themselves and society.

As of Sunday, 3,16,406 people have been screened at various entry points to the State, while 78,368 samples were tested for COVID-19, officials said.

In another development,150 persons and 22 vehicles were detained in the state violating lockdown norms and altogether fined a sum of Rs 31,000 only as per law, says state police department source.
