Guwahati: Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Friday met Haokholet Kipgen at the latterโ€™s residence in Hengbung, Kangpokpi district, during his return to Imphal following an official visit to Senapati district.

The Chief Ministerโ€™s visit to Senapati was significant, marking his first journey to the hill district via Kangpokpi since May 3, 2023, shortly after he assumed office. During the trip, he inaugurated multiple development projects and laid foundation stones for new initiatives aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving public services in the region.

Officials said the stopover in Hengbung came after the Senapati programme, where Singh interacted with local leaders and reviewed ongoing development works. During his meeting with the independent MLA, the two leaders briefly discussed key developmental issues concerning the Saitu Assembly Constituency. Singh assured Kipgen that the concerns raised would be examined and necessary support provided.

The interaction is seen as part of the state governmentโ€™s broader outreach efforts to engage with stakeholders across communities amid ongoing tensions.

In a post shared on Facebook, Singh described the meeting as โ€œconstructive and cordial,โ€ appreciating Kipgenโ€™s hospitality and insights. He noted that such discussions would help guide the governmentโ€™s push toward inclusive development and responsive governance.

The Chief Minister also acknowledged the reception extended by the Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi, stating that such cooperation reinforces the administrationโ€™s commitment to restoring peace and normalcy, while laying the groundwork for long-term stability and progress.

The developments come against the backdrop of continuing unrest in parts of Manipur. Protests have recently erupted in Imphal West following the Tronglaobi bomb attack in Bishnupur district, which claimed the lives of two children and left their mother injured. Demonstrators have strongly condemned the incident, calling it evidence of the governmentโ€™s failure to safeguard lives and property.

Some protesters also raised slogans against Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, demanding accountability and more robust security measures.

Authorities maintain that efforts are underway to restore normalcy through administrative outreach and enhanced security deployment, though concerns persist among residents over safety and the need for justice for the victims.
