Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday chaired a review meeting of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MLAs at the Secretariat to assess the progress of developmental works and strategise for their timely completion.
Officials close to the Chief Minister stated that the meeting was followed by an invitation to hold talks with leaders of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a unified civil society platform dedicated to safeguarding the territorial integrity, cultural identity, and social harmony of Manipur.
The COCOMI Women’s Wing has banned Chief Minister Y. Khemchand, his ministers, and all BJP MLAs and leaders from attending the Khongjom Day observation, honouring Manipur’s last war of independence, scheduled for April 23, 2026. In this connection, the Chief Minister has invited COCOMI for talks to find a peaceful solution at a convenient time.
COCOMI Women’s Wing convenor Wahengbam Luwangleima told the media that all elected representatives are allegedly supporting Kuki militants, calling upon the people to stop the alleged “puppet politicians,” including the Chief Minister, his ministers, and all BJP MLAs, from attending the Khongjom Day observation.
In response, the Chief Minister posted on his Facebook page: “Despite certain challenges affecting the pace, coordinated measures were deliberated to address them effectively through collective efforts.” He added that the government remains committed to prioritising development in line with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a Viksit Manipur and Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Manipur is led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which secured a majority in the 2022 elections.
Following the 2022 Assembly elections and subsequent developments, the core ruling alliance included the BJP, with support from the Naga People’s Front (NPF), National People’s Party (NPP), and independent members, ensuring a majority in the 60-member Assembly.
The BJP, as the leading partner, initially held 32 seats and increased its tally to 37 after the merger of five JD(U) members in 2022.
