Imphal: The Manipur Government is implementing road development and renovation works worth Rs 3,647.23 crore across market areas in Imphal city. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday visited Thangal Bazar in northern Imphal to review the progress of the ongoing projects.
The initiative aims to upgrade around 547 kilometres of urban and suburban roads into durable concrete pavements, improve drainage systems to address waterlogging, and strengthen the Public Works Departmentโs (PWD) institutional capacity for asset management. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)-funded Manipur Urban Road, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project (MURDAMIP) is being executed by the PWD, Government of Manipur.
During the visit, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh interacted with concerned officials and directed them to expedite the development works, particularly those focused on beautifying the market areas. The inspection was intended to assess progress and ensure the timely completion of the projects.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykisan, Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Sapam, and officials from the Public Works Department, Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD), and the Imphal Municipal Corporation, among others.
