Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh led 30-member State BJP delegation has apprised the Union Human Resources Development(HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar about the ongoing impasse in Manipur University during a meeting on Monday, official sources in Imphal said.

The delegation which was attended Rajya Sabha MP Kh Bhabananda also submitted a copy of the State Cabinet’s suggestion of setting up an inquiry committee to look into the issues raised by Manipur University community.

The state delegation also included ministers and MLAs, besides senior party leaders.

Further, the delegation requested the Union Minister to review the composition of the inquiry committee constituted by the HRD Ministry and impressed upon him the need for the inquiry committee to be headed by a retired High Court judge, sources added.

The delegation also met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and submitted a joint memorandum, detailing the party State unit’s viewpoint on the Framework Agreement, signed by BJP legislators and senior party leaders including the Rajya Sabha MP and state president Ksh Bhavananda Singh.

In the evening, the Chief Minister met Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and discussed the Indo-Myanmar boundary pillar issue impacting Manipur state.

The Minister agreed to send a joint team of Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs and Survey of India for verification of border pillar 80-82.

Meanwhile, the state Chief Secretary J Suresh Babu has also written to the Department of Higher Education, Minister of Human Resources, to institute a high level inquiry committee to probe the serious allegations against the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University.

The Chief Secretary’s letter also asked the HRD ministry to direct the VC to proceed on leave during the period of the inquiry besides urging to consider appointment of a Pro Vice Chancellor during the inquiry period.
