The Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BoSEM) has asked the ongoing HSLC Examination 2020 to arrive at the exam centres 15 minutes ahead of the commencement of the examination.

“It has been brought to the knowledge of BoSEM that some candidates at some examination centres of the ongoing HSLC examination 2020 were found to enter their respective examination centres 5/10 minutes later after the commencement of the examination,” said BOSEM secretary Dr CM Thomas.

In a statement on Wednesday, Dr Chingthung Mary Thomas said: “Such situations caused a lot of inconveniences at the time of the frisking as well as in the examination room to the functionaries of the examination centre.”

The Board viewed such cases seriously and in order to prevent such cases, the Board has decided that all the candidates appearing in the examination are directed to arrive at the examination centres well ahead of the commencement of the examination.

It also said the candidates, who arrive at the examination centres after 9 am, shall be detained for proper frisking before entering into the examination room.

The step has been taken as part of taking up certain precautionary measures after the authority expelled a number of candidates appearing in the HSLC examination for impersonation and copying.

Since the beginning of the examination, altogether 37 candidates have been expelled from examination.

On the first day of the HSLC Examination 2020, eight candidates were expelled from the examination for impersonation.

On the second day on February 21, a total of 20 students (15 for impersonation, 5 for using unfair means) were expelled.

At the same time, 9 more candidates were expelled from various examination centres of the state for using unfair means/impersonation on February 25, said official sources.

A total of 38,664 candidates including 19,824 female candidates are appearing in the HSLC Examination in 140 examination centres across the state.

The examination, being conducted by the BoSEM, is said to be one of the biggest annual examinations in the state.

The HSLC Examination 2020, which started on February 17, will conclude on March 5.
