Imphal: The Manipur Legislative Assembly on Monday passed Demands for Grants totalling Rs 2,524.88 crore for seven departments for 2026โ27 financial year.
The House approved Rs 16.29 crore under Demand No. 9 for Information and Publicity, Rs 1,423.53 crore for Demand No. 11 covering Medical, Health and Family Welfare Services, and Rs 88.01 crore for Demand No. 15 relating to Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
Grants of Rs 162.06 crore were approved for Demand No. 26 under Administration of Justice, Rs 791.75 crore for Demand No. 44 for the Social Welfare Department, Rs 36.12 crore for Demand No. 45 for Tourism, and Rs 7.09 crore for Demand No. 46 for Science and Technology.
The Assembly also passed the Manipur Money-Lenders Bill, 2026, introduced by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. The legislation provides for the involvement of certified chartered accountants in maintaining the accounts of money lenders operating in the state.
During the dayโs proceedings, elections to three Financial Committees of the Assembly for the year 2026โ27 were also announced.
Members elected to the Committee on Public Accounts are Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh, Leisangthem Sushindro Meitei, Yumnam Radheshyam Singh, Achab Uddin, Usham Deben Singh, Surjakumar Okram and Khwairakpam Raghumani Singh.
The Committee on Estimates will comprise Kangujam Ranjit Singh, Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh, Paonam Brojen Singh, Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh, Irengbam Nalini Devi, Sanasam Premchandra Singh and Sheikh Noorul Hassan.
Members elected to the Committee on Public Undertakings are Kangujam Ranjit Singh, Thounaojam Shyamkumar, Abdul Nasir, Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, Heikham Dingo Singh, Leishiyo Keishing and Tongbram Robindro Singh.
