Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh informed the state Assembly on Wednesday that his government has communicated with the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding a Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

The exercise aims to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll and that ineligible voters are excluded.

Replying to queries raised by the Leader of the Opposition and Wangkhem AC MLA K. Meghachandra regarding the census process, the Chief Minister said the process will begin following the completion of house listing and the SIR.

He informed the House that the census is conducted under the supervision of the Registrar General of India.

Replying to a cut motion regarding illegal immigrants, Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam stated that committees have been formed to check illegal immigration in the state.

He noted that security deployment, combined with flag marches and surveillance in sensitive areas, is ongoing. Area domination to prevent illegal drug smuggling in border areas is also continuing, he added.

Regarding queries on vacancies in the Arts and Culture Department, Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh stated that the government will fill the vacant posts after discussions with the Chief Minister.

On his social media handle X, the Chief Minister wrote regarding Wednesday’s session, โ€œPleasure to consider and pass the Manipur Appropriation (No. 1) Bill, 2026, by the House in the third sitting of the 7th Session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly today, further strengthening the efficiency of governance and administrative functioning in the state.โ€
