Imphal: A senior leader of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Taibangngaba), who was arrested in New Delhi last month, has been brought to Manipur and remanded to judicial custody by a Special NIA Court.
Haobijam Dilip alias Taibangngaba (52), the self-styled chairman of the proscribed outfit, was produced before the Special NIA Court in Imphal West district through video conferencing on Saturday after being brought to Imphal.
Dilip was arrested on May 6, 2026, in New Delhi during a joint operation carried out by the Delhi Police Special Cell, Manipur Police and central security agencies. Following his arrest, he was lodged in Tihar Jail.
Subsequently, the Special NIA Court in Imphal West issued a production warrant and handed him over to the Singjamei Police Station for investigation into multiple criminal cases.
A resident of Bishnupur Awang Leikai and originally from Keibul Lamjao, Dilip is wanted in more than a dozen cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
According to the investigating officer of Singjamei Police Station, Dilip is accused of directing members of the outfit to extort money from shops and business establishments in and around Imphal.
Police said his interrogation led security forces to recover a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from Kakching district. The investigation also resulted in the arrest of several other individuals allegedly linked to the case.
The Special NIA Court has remanded Dilip to judicial custody until June 30 as the investigation continues.
