Imphal: A joint team from the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police raided a village located along the Manipur-Myanmar border and uncovered a cache of weapons and ammunition during the past 24 hours, officials said on Monday.

Acting on specific intelligence of the presence of arms and ammunition in the general area of Songjang Khopi village, Churachandpur District, Manipur, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police launched a joint combing operation.

During the operation, the team recovered two Improvised pumpi, one Single Barrel Rifle, Two improvised mortars, and ammunition.

The recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police for further legal actions, the officials added.

The operation followed after the Assam Rifles conducted a security meeting at Sangaikot Village, Churachandpur District on 13 July 2024.

Fifteen village authorities & eight Security Forces Column Commanders of the Sangaikot Sub-Division attended the meeting.

The meeting was addressed by Sangaikot senior officials of Assam Rifles. The discussions focused on the ongoing security situation with the view to maintaining peace and tranquillity in the area of responsibility. Deliberate discussions on varied aspects like the current security situation, socio-political situation, and education of youth, farming, and health awareness were carried out with the Village Chiefs pitching their views on the overall security of the villages and maintaining peace.
