Manipur: 3 smugglers arrested with Rs 5.5 crore heroin in Imphal

Guwahati: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police seized a huge haul of suspected heroin in Golaghat and arrested several suspects.

The operation targeted a residence in Golaghat district suspected of stockpiling illegal drugs.

Acting on a tip-off, the STF team raided the house of Kuddush Ali in Rajaphukuri, Uriamghat.

During the raid, the team apprehended Md Shohidul Islam and Oliullah Hussain, Ali’s sons.

On searching them, the police team found a soap box containing 13 grams of suspected heroin during the search.

Under questioning, the arrested individuals provided information that led to a significant breakthrough, a police source said.

They revealed the location of their sister’s residence nearby.

The STF continuing with their raid unearthed a much larger stash.

The police said that they found 140 soap boxes containing 1.732 kilograms of heroin.

The total amount of seized heroin is estimated to have a street value of approximately Rs 15 crore.

Further, an investigation has been initiated to identify the suspected persons and gang connected with the trade.
