Imphal: The Kuki-Zo Council, a prominent tribal body in Manipur, has called for a total shutdown on Tuesday from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The organisation called the bandh to protest the killing of 11 armed men who lost their lives in an alleged encounter with CRPF personnel in an area under the Borobekra police station of Jiribam district on Monday.

In a statement, Khaikhohauh Gangte, Secretary Information of the Kuki-Zo Council, conveyed the deep sorrow of the Kuki-Zo community and expressed solidarity with the families of the victims.

Gangte said that the loss of these lives is a significant blow to the community, which remains steadfast in its pursuit of peace, justice, and security.

The Council strongly condemned the violence and demanded an immediate and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

It extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pledged to stand with them during this difficult time.

The Council urged the community to unite, not in anger, but in solidarity, as they seek justice for the lives lost.

It further clarified that the shutdown will exempt essential services such as medical personnel, ambulances, media, electricity, and water supply.
