Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki tribes, has formally urged the Government of India to abrogate the ceasefire agreements signed with the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) and its proxies.
KIM representatives submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi on June 19, 2026.
The move comes amid rapidly deteriorating relations between the Kuki-Zo and Naga communities.
According to the memorandum, recent conflicts have resulted in the destruction of 11 Kuki villages and the loss of 14 civilian lives.
KIM expressed concern that if the Government fulfils the demands of the United Naga Council (UNC), the apex body of the Nagas in Manipur, without addressing Kuki-Zo grievances, it would be perceived as biased.
The UNC is currently demanding justice for Naga victims of ethnic violence and has been pressing for the cancellation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups, which it blames for proxy wars.
Conversely, KIM has alleged that the NSCN-IM is directly or indirectly involved in violence and intimidation tactics that threaten the Kuki-Zo population. Its charter of demands includes the abrogation of the ceasefire agreement with the NSCN-IM.
It also seeks justice for the 14 civilians killed and for the alleged fake encounter killing of Lenminsang in Songkong village on June 16.
Furthermore, KIM has demanded the immediate deployment of security forces in vulnerable villages, an investigation into the burning of 11 Kuki villages, and an expedited political settlement for the Kuki-Zo people.
These escalating ethnic tensions and community-specific demands continue to trigger mass protests and occasional economic blockades across the region.
