Guwahati: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has alleged that civilians were harassed during a security operation in Leilon Vaiphei and adjoining villages in Kangpokpiย district,ย days after a violent incident in the area left three Kuki-Zo students injured.

In a statement, the apex Kuki body accused Central Security Forces of conducting house-to-house searches, imposing restrictions on movement and subjecting residents, including women, children and elderly persons, to intimidation during the operation.

The organisation said the action took place shortly after an attack in the area that it alleged was carried out by cadres linked to the NSCN-IM and its alleged proxy outfit ZUF-K. According to KIM, three Kuki-Zo students injured in the incident remain under medical treatment.

Questioning the timing and manner of the operation, KIM alleged that security forces had targeted villagers who were themselves victims of violence rather than focusing on those responsible for the attack.

The organisation claimed that residents of Leilon Vaiphei and neighbouring villages were subjected to restrictions and searches despite having recently been affected by armed violence. It further said that women, children and elderly residents were affected by the operation.

KIM urged the Government of India and security agencies to ensure that security measures do not result in the harassment of civilians and called for equal application of the law across communities.

The organisation also demanded action against those responsible for the attack that injured the three students and sought justice for the victims.
