Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex Kuki body in the state, has demanded immediate and decisive action from the government and security forces to identify, arrest, and prosecute all individuals involved in an attack that injured three civilians from the Kuki community.

The demand follows an incident in which three Kuki youths, Genlenmang Vaiphei (18), Lunliandaw Vaiphei (20), and Paogou Lal (18), were injured in fresh ethnic violence that erupted on Monday morning in the inter-village areas of Leilon Vaiphei and Konsakhul in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

In a statement, the KIM Media Cell strongly condemned the incident, which it described as the June 15 bombing of Leilon Vaiphei by NSCN-IM and the proxy outfit ZUF-K.

The organisation stated that the attack once again endangered innocent lives, damaged property, and shattered the peace and security of the people.

The apex body also questioned how much longer government forces would continue to give leeway to those responsible for creating terror, insecurity, and destruction.

“Silence, delay, or inaction will only embolden the perpetrators and deepen public anger and mistrust,” the statement said.

KIM further emphasised that such attacks against civilians are unacceptable, inhumane, and a direct threat to the rule of law.

The people of Leilon Vaiphei and the surrounding areas cannot be expected to live in fear while armed groups continue to operate with apparent freedom and impunity, the statement added.

Following the attack, the injured were first rushed to the military hospital in Leimakhong.

They were later shifted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for further treatment under security escort.
