Kangpokpi: The Kuki Inpi Manipur on Wednesday responded to allegations and reports circulating in connection with recent developments in S. Changoubung village in Kangpokpi district during the ongoing total shutdown called by the United Naga Council.
The organisation said the concerns raised were linked to incidents of alleged unauthorised entry into S. Changoubung Kuki village, obstruction of movement, and attempts to compel residents and shopkeepers. It also mentioned reports of verbal and physical abuse in the area.
Kuki Inpi Manipur rejected allegations that the Kuki community disrespected the dead, hurt Naga sentiments, or provoked violence. It said these claims are not correct and misrepresent the situation.
The organisation said it respects the sentiments, traditions, and sensitivities of all tribal communities. It added that there was no intention to offend or increase tensions, and that the focus remains on protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of residents within their respective areas.
It urged all communities and stakeholders to maintain restraint in actions and statements. It said that communal harmony, mutual respect, and understanding are necessary for peaceful coexistence.
The organisation also warned that the spread of unverified or inflammatory claims could increase tensions and affect peace efforts.
It appealed to civil society groups, community leaders, and authorities to encourage dialogue based on facts and mutual understanding, and to work together to maintain peace and avoid further misunderstandings.
