Imphal: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on Thursday announced a nationwide rally on May 30 over the killing of three Kuki-Zo church leaders and the alleged illegal detention of Kuki-Zo civilians in the state.
In a statement, the organisation said the demonstrations would be held across the country to protest what it described as the โongoing persecution and targeted victimisationโ of the Kuki-Zo community by both Naga and Meitei groups.
According to KIM, the protest is being organised against the alleged failure of authorities to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing of three Kuki-Zo church leaders โ Rev. V. Sitlhou, Rev. Kaigoulun and Pastor Paogoulen.
The organisation said the incident had deeply affected the Kuki-Zo community and triggered widespread anger and concern.
The statement also raised concerns over the continued detention of 14 Kuki-Zo civilians in Senapati district by Naga civil society organisations, describing it as illegal and a violation of constitutional rights and the rule of law.
KIM said the rallies would be organised under a common banner and theme, which would be circulated among participating organisations nationwide.
The organisation appealed to Kuki-Zo civil society organisations, student bodies, womenโs groups, youth organisations, churches and community leaders to coordinate the rallies peacefully and democratically in their respective districts, towns and cities.
It further expressed confidence that the Kuki-Zo community across the country would remain united in seeking justice and safeguarding the rights and dignity of the community.
The announcement comes amid continuing tensions in Manipur following recent incidents involving killings, alleged abductions and displacement linked to the ongoing ethnic conflict in the state.
