New Delhi: Justice N Kotiswar Singh made history on Thursday (July 18) as the first judge from Manipur to be elevated to the Supreme Court of India.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud administered the oath of office to Justice N Kotiswar Singh.
With the elevation of Justice Singh, the Supreme Court of India now operates at its full strength of 34 judges.
This full capacity is expected to be maintained until September, when Justice Hima Kohli is scheduled to retire.

Before his appointment to the Supreme Court, Justice N Kotiswar Singh served as the chief justice of the Jammu and Kashmir high court.
His ascension to the nation’s highest court is seen as a momentous achievement for Manipur.
