Inner Manipur MP Rajkumar Ranjan Singh took oath as Union minister of state on Wednesday.

Popularly known as RK Ranjan, the MP won the Inner Manipur seat in the 17th Lok Sabha elections 2019 on BJP ticket.

He belongs to a Manipur royal clan.

Born on September 1, 1952 in the village of Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal East district, RK Ranjan cleared his graduation from Dhana Manjuri College in Imphal.

He did his masters in Geography in 1972 from Gauhati University and later completed PhD on ‘Problems of land-use’ in Manipur.

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh has congratulated RK Ranjan for being inducted into the Modi ministry.

“Heartiest congratulations to Shri @RanjanRajkuma11ji on taking oath as a Union Minister. Your enormous knowledge & experience in several responsibilities will be of great significance to achieve the vision of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji. My best wishes Yaambung,” the Manipur CM tweeted.

RK Ranjan served as an assistant professor at Manipur University (MU) in the department of Earth Sciences.

He was appointed registrar at Manipur University and served from 2004-2008.

He joined the BJP in 2013.

After his win from Inner Manipur seat in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, RK Ranjan was appointed as a member of several parliamentary committees including the Standing Committee for Science and Technology, the Consultative Committee for DoNER and the Parliamentary Rules Committee.
