An emergency joint meeting of the executive members of Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA), Manipur University Staff Association (MUSA) and Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) was convened at the office of MUTA on Sunday resolved to launch an indefinite hunger strike with effect from the afternoon of August 10.
The emergency joint meeting was convened to deliberate the details of the discussion MUSU had with the Chief Minister of Manipur.
A release stated that the members of the team from MUSU who met the Chief Minister earlier in the day apprised the meeting on what transpired in the discussion with the Chief Minister.
The members of MUSU were both surprised and disappointed to find the presence of some other members during the interaction as their presence were not informed before hand by the office of the Chief Minister, it added.
The Manipur University bodies, in its release, further stated that after sharing the prevailing views on the key issues, MUSU had intimidated the Chief Minister that any future interaction should be in the presence of all the three constituents of the university community.
The meeting further took the resolution to request the Chief Minister to invite all three constituent units simultaneously for any meeting in the future for discussion on the present crisis, it added.
It was also resolved that prior information must be given regarding every invitation to any meeting with the Chief Minister as to the persons who will be attending the meeting, the release said while adding that if was further resolved to reaffirm the demand for institution of an independent high power committee under the Commission of Enquiry Act 1952 to look into the charges of the irregularities committed by A P Pandey as Vice Chancellor of Manipur University.
