The officers of the Anti-Smuggling Unit of Imphal Customs (Preventive) Division of the Customs (P) Commissionerate, Shillong seized a consignment of brown sugar from a truck and arrested the driver.
The Imphal Customs (Preventive) Division officers launched an operation on specific intelligence input at 5:45 pm on July 29, 2021, the Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate (NER) said in a statement.
During the operation, the customs officers intercepted one empty Tata truck in the Mantriphukri area of Imphal (East) on the National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur Road) in Manipur.
The empty truck was going towards Dimapur from Imphal.
While checking, the customs officers found 8,550 grams of brown sugar of foreign origin worth Rs. 8,75,00,000 in the truck.
The brown sugar, packed in 11 packets, was concealed under the backseat of the driver, the Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate (NER) informed.
The consignment and the vehicle were seized by the customs officers and the driver of the vehicle was arrested.
A case No. 01/CL/NDPS/CUS/DPF/ACl/2021-22 has been registered, it added.
