Imphal: Governor of Manipur, Lakshman Prasad Acharya inaugurated the Boys’ Hostel building and Mess with a dining hall in the hostel premises at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur, Mantripukhri, about 8 km from Imphal on Wednesday. The governor inspected the newly inaugurated hostel building and mess building.
The inaugurated hostel has state-of-the-art facilities like water filters, hot-water geysers, washing machines, Metal-cots, Reading tables, and almirahs. The hotel campus is Wi-Fi enabled with a 24×7 power supply with DG backup. It will accommodate around 120-150 students with a dining capacity of about 150 students at a given time.

As part of the inauguration programs, the Governor led in the tree plantation drive on the campus which was held under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. Addressing the gatherings, Governor said, the IIITs have been at the forefront of technological education, fostering innovation, research, and development. With the addition of such new facilities in IIIT Manipur, the institute will provide an even more conducive environment for learning and growth for the students, he asserted.
He further encouraged the students of this institute to make the most of the newly inaugurated infrastructures not only for nourishment to the body but also for intellectual nourishment and to ensure that it becomes a sanctuary of knowledge, discipline, and mutual respect. The governor also expressed happiness on learning that for the first time, one student from Manipur has enrolled in the institute from the coming session. Dr Sukhi Oraon, Chairman of Board of Governance, IIIT Manipur, and Prof. Krishnan Baskar Director, IIIT Manipur also graced the inaugural function.
