A joint body of All Manipur United Clubs Organization (AMUCO), United Committee Manipur (UCM) and Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) has called a general strike from the midnight of July 31 till the midnight of August 1 as a mark of protest against the ‘divisive policy’ of government of India regarding the Naga Agreement.

Interacting with media at the office of AMUCO at Kwakeithel, the joint body has announced that there will be a series of agitation programmes to prevent the Naga Peace Accord from affecting the territorial integrity of the State.

A sit-in-protest will be held on July 28 at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community hall. There will also be a mass rally on August 18 for the cause of the people of Manipur.

The joint body also appealed to the general public to support the move adding that the series of protest is not directed towards any particular community.

The president of AMUCO, Deban said that the central leaders have given assurance that Manipur will not be affected by the framework agreement in a meeting between the Prime Minister and the representatives of the joint body earlier.

But, the recent report submitted to the Parliamentary Standing Committee by RN Ravi throws light over the possibility of extension of Art 371A of the Indian Constitution, he alleged.

Article 371A gives special provision with respect to the state of Nagaland including administration of civil and criminal justice involving decision according to Naga customary law.
