The opposition Manipur state unit of the Congress party organized a protest meeting on the framework agreement between the NSCN (IM) and Government of India and Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 at the Congress Bhavan in Imphal on Wednesday.

The protest meet was organized by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and it was attended by opposition leader and former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, President of MPCC, T N Haokip and other sitting and former MLAs of the party besides a large number of party workers.

Almost all the speakers in the day’s protest expressed and shared their comment and opinions on the framework agreement between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India and Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

Later the meeting decided to take six resolutions – three each for two separate issues.

In case of framework agreement between the NSCN (IM) and Government of India, the meeting reaffirmed the Memorandum of November 21,2017 submitted to the Prime Miniter of India reacting to the framework agreement signed between GoI and NSCN(IM) besides resolving to demand for protection of the integrity of Manipur -territorial, administrative, financial, cultural and political etc.

Condemning the recent statement of RN Ravi who is Centre’s interlocutor of the ongoing talks between the Central Government and the NSCN (IM) since 2014, relating to the contents of the framework agreement in a section of national media on April 26,2018, the meeting also decided to urge the Central Government and all the political parties to safeguard the interest of the state of Manipur.

On the other hand, the protest meeting also decided to submit a memorandum to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for withdrawal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Resolving to submit memorandum to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister in this regard, MPCC also demanded the Centre for withdrawal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
