Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Thursday said four suspected persons linked to the abduction of six Naga civilians had been arrested as security forces continued search and combing operations to trace the hostages.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to Makhan Naga village in Kangpokpi district, the Chief Minister said investigations were underway to identify and apprehend others allegedly involved in the incident.
Singh visited a relief camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) at Makhan Baptist Church, where around 35 people, including women and children from Konsakhul village, are currently taking shelter.
According to officials, the inmates included villagers who were earlier taken hostage and later released by armed miscreants.
During the visit, the Chief Minister distributed relief materials including rice, pulses, potatoes, onions, edible oil, sugar, tea leaves and biscuits.
He also inspected the village community hall and discussed arrangements for accommodating additional displaced persons with local authorities and village leaders.
The Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi was directed to provide essential supplies such as mattresses and mosquito nets for the relief camp.
Village representatives informed the Chief Minister that several Naga families in Kangpokpi district had fled their homes out of fear following recent incidents in the area.
Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, along with several MLAs and senior civil and police officials, accompanied Singh during the visit.
