Four officials of Manipur police have been arrested for their alleged involvement in drug smuggling.

The officer in charge of Moreh police station, Letkhohao Vaiphei, along with three other junior officers, was arrested late Friday night for their alleged involvement in the case.

The three policemen are ASI T Paominlun Haokip, head constable Md Khalilup  and constable Luckson Kom.

They were arrested after contraband drugs were recovered from the ASI T Paominlun Haokip’s room.

A Manipur court on Saturday remanded them to police custody for five days.

Police said acting on an intelligence input, a team led by Moreh SP raided the house of Haokip on Tuesday night and recovered 34 boxes of assorted banned drugs.

The drugs consignment was smuggled into Moreh by Kom, who also happened to be the driver of Vaiphei, and Khalilup in a police vehicle and handed over to ASI Haokip

Police said the owner of the consignment, hailing from Thoubal’s Lilong, reportedly promised Khalilup Rs 1 lakh for transporting the drugs till Moreh.
