Former chief minister O. Ibobi Singh said democracy was murdered on Monday in Manipur Legislative Assembly by not granting the rights of Congress MLAs’ demand for ‘division vote’ against ‘trust vote’.
The Opposition leader & Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader said this after chief minister N Biren-led coalition government in Manipur won the motion of confidence by a voice vote on Monday.
“In our India’s democracy, today is the day of murder of democracy in Manipur Legislative Assembly by not granting the rights of Congress MLAs” demand for ‘division vote’ against trust vote today,” the Congress leader told the media.

Regarding the ban on live streaming of the trust vote, the former CM said: “Banning live streaming of the trust vote is a murder of media, the 4th pillar of democracy.”
The whole 11th session of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Monday was kept in dark from the eyes of the people of Manipur by the Speaker of the Assembly and the BJP government, the Opposition leader said.
CLP leader O. Ibobi Singh in his press briefing, after the undemocratic trust vote, categorically stated that the Speaker didn’t allow for division vote despite all the Congress MLAs’ demand for it instead of voice vote in the House.
“Why was the Speaker acting against the constitutional demand of the Opposition Congress MLAs for division vote against the trust vote on motion of confidence today? Why did the Speaker allow voice vote only, when the voice vote was not accepted by the INC MLAs?” the Congress leader questioned.
