Guwahati: Congress Member of Parliament A. Bimol Akoijam on Thursday voiced strong alarm over what he termed a “coordinated attack” on recently resettled internally displaced persons (IDPs), describing the incident as deeply troubling and indicative of serious shortcomings in existing security arrangements.

Speaking to the media, Akoijam said the episode exposed a failure to adequately disarm armed elements in the post-conflict phase, raising critical concerns about the government’s approach to rehabilitation and the safety of vulnerable populations. He emphasised that efforts to resettle displaced families would remain ineffective unless authorities guarantee their protection on the ground.

“The organised manner in which the attack was carried out clearly suggests that the disarmament process has not been properly implemented. This is an extremely serious issue, and the government must respond with immediate and decisive action,” the Congress MP said.

Akoijam further stated that he has already taken up the matter in Parliament, pressing the Centre to reassess its security strategy and fix responsibility for lapses.

He said he would continue to raise the issue in the House until concrete measures are put in place to ensure the safety of internally displaced persons and rebuild trust among the affected communities.
