The resident doctors and students of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal continued their protest for the second day on Monday.
They went on strike on Sunday after three resident doctors , including a female doctor were allegedly thrashed by a mob comprising of the family and relatives of a person who died at the casualty ward of RIMS on Saturday.
With the medical staff on strike, many patients at RIMS were denied medicare . The upset patients demanded that a possible solution should be reached to control the situation at the medical institution.
Some resident doctors of JN Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) also joined the protest at RIMS.
The RIMS doctors on strike said that they will abstain from attending their duties till the culprits are arrested.
Placards with slogans like “Doctors are not God,” “Violence is not the solution,” “No mob justice,” “Doctors are not God”, “Save the doctors,” “Wake up justice,” and “No action no work,” among others were displayed during the protest.
The family members of the dead person blamed medical negligence for the death.
One of the family members of the deceased claimed that the doctors of RIMS are protesting to cover up their negligence.
He claimed that though the bereaved family members had remained silent, they lodged a police complaint on Sunday in view of the protests.
