The Manipur government’s War on Drugs campaign to fight the drugs menace has been garnering significant public support with many people, particularly in the bordering districts campaigning for the cause.

Local residents in many villages have also destroyed large poppy cultivations as a means to spot the consumption of opium.

However, many farmers engage in illegal poppy cultivation have a nexus with smugglers engaged in cross-border smuggling of the crop.

“Attended a Public Convention Against Drugs at Kwakta, Bishnupur District, where hundreds of people took a pledge to fight against sale and consumption of illegal drugs in the area. The #WarOnDrugs campaign of the State Government is swiftly becoming a People’s Movement,” N Biren Singh tweeted.
