Troops of Assam Rifles claimed to have apprehended four individuals and seized four trucks of timber.

These timbers are being illegally transported from Joupi to Imphal on December 20 last, according to a press release.

“Based on the information received from sources regarding movement of four trucks loaded with illegal timber from Joupi to Imphal, troops of Assam Rifles established a vehicle check post in general area Langmeidong and seized the loaded vehicles,” said a press release issued by the PRO of Inspector General,Assam Rifles Headquarters(South).

“The teams of Wangoo Police Station and Forest Department, Kakching, respectively apprehended the four drivers and confiscated the illegal consignment.”

The confiscated timber known as Khangra weighed in approximately 60 tonnes worth an amount of Rs 40 Lakhs.

The drivers of four vehicles along with illegal consignment have been handed over to Wangoo Police Station for further investigation, it said.
