The jawans of Assam Rifles, recovered a remote controlled improvised explosive device (IED), allegedly planted by banned militant outfit of Manipur, People’s Liberation Army (PLA), from a road in Manipur‘s Kamtong district.

A report published on Thursday by Business Standard stated that the improvised explosive device reportedly weighed three kg.

It was recovered from a road connecting Kamtong village to Skipe village in the district.

As per the report, the IED was recovered at around 5 pm on Wednesday.

It has been suspected that it was planted by the banned Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA).

It was later defused by bomb squad of the Army.

Quoting Assam Rifles officials the report stated that the recovery of the explosive device was based on a “highly accurate intelligence input by Manipur Police”.

It has been reported that the banned militant outfit of Manipur was trying to carry out some subversive activities in the run up to September 25, on which the outfit was formed, to show that they are still relevant.

According to media reports, self-styled major, Humi of PLA, a resident of Khangpat village, who is believed to an IED expert, was behind the plan of plating the IED in the village road in Kamtong district.

PLA, an armed revolutionary outfit, which has been fighting for a separate independent socialist state of Manipur, was founded by N Bisheshwar Singh on September 25, 1978.
