Acting on an intelligence input, the joint team of Assam Police and Manipur Police on Wednesday raided a distribution of hub of narcotic drugs.
In a painstaking search operation undertaken in the difficult terrain in the hours of darkness, three concealed bags containing 72 kg of Brown Sugar were recovered.
The market value of the seized consignment of Brown Sugar has been estimated to be over Rs 287 crores.
From prima facie investigation, it has come to fore that taking advantage of the porous international border the consignment of Brown Sugar was smuggled in from Myanmar.
Several international drugs smuggling networks are active in Manipur, and engaged in transshipping the consignments to different states in India.
Assam Rifles and Manipur Police work in close coordination with Customs (Preventive) and Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) teams in Manipur to stop smuggling of narcotic drugs and other psychotropic drugs along the Myanmar border.
