Two more deaths and 249 new COVID19 positive cases have been reported in the last 24 hours in Manipur, taking the state’s positive tally to 12,489, the state health department said on Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours, two males, aged 75 years (Imphal East) and 40 years (Thoubal) expired at JNIMS, the COVID 19 Common Control Room in Imphal said in a statement on Wednesday.

The cumulative number of deaths is 80, it added.

The state reported its first death due to COVID19 on July 29 while the first COVID19 positive case was detected on March 24.

In the last 24 hours, 243 persons from the general population and 6 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force were confirmed as new COVID 19 positive cases, the statement said.

The new COVID19 positive cases were confirmed at 20 testing facilities in the state.

The positive cases from the general population are from 10 districts of the state.

All from the general population are locals without any significant travel history, the statement said adding that the infected patients are being shifted to the COVID care facilities.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the statement said.

Meanwhile, altogether 122 persons were discharged from 18 COVID care facilities including home isolation in the state.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 12,489 while the numbers of active and recovered cases are 2,805 and 9,604 respectively.

The recovery rate is 76.89%.

So far 3,95,259 persons were screened at various entry points of the state while 2,59,735 individuals were tested for COVID19 at various testing centres in the state, official sources said.
