Manipur chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on Sunday announced that a Mukna Stadium will be constructed in the State soon.

This he said was to protect the dying indigenous games and also to keep our younger generation fit and healthy.

Mukna is an important traditional game and a kind of wrestling among the indigenous population in the state of Manipur.

Chief minister Biren made this announcement at the closing ceremony of the first state level Mukna Takhatnaba 2019 held at Singjamei Oinam Thingel Lairembi Lampak under Singjamei constituency of Imphal West district on Sunday.

Singjamei comnstituency happens to be the home Assembly segment of Manipur Legislative Assembly  Speaker Yumnam Khemchand.

Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly K Robindro, MLAs Heikham Dingo Singh (Sekmai), Th Satyabrata Singh (Yaiskul) and others attended the closing function.

Continuing his speech, Biren also informed that the annual indigenous martial arts meet will be organized as a calendar event of the State Government from this year onwards.

The meet will be held during December 18-22 later this year.

He said that the present government is keen to preserve the indigenous games of the State.

He said that he is indeed happy that local clubs are organizing such tournaments to revive the indigenous games and sports of the State.

Maintaining that Manipur have been affected by rampant drug menace and alcoholism and such will have adverse impact in the present and future generation, he hinted that some unknown groups/organizations are executing an undercurrent war in the society using drugs as a weapon for mass destruction of the present and future generation of the State.

The people of the State need to understand such situation so that we could save the generations to come.

The two-day state level Mukna Takhatnaba 2019 is being organized by Iramdamgi Eenat Yokhat Lup and Eikhoigee Club under the aegis of All Manipur Mukna Association, according to DIPR Manipur sources.
