Imphal : A joint operation by central security forces and state police led to the arrest of three cadres belonging to different insurgent outfits and foiled a planned attempt to trigger violence using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the sensitive border state on Wednesday.
In the first operation, security personnel arrested an active member of the banned Peopleโs Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), identified as Nepram Dijamani Meetei (52) of Bashikhong Torban Leikai in Imphal East district.
He was apprehended from the Canchipur Super Market area under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district. Officials recovered 11 demand letters allegedly signed by the outfitโs self-styled Revenue Chief (Finance Department), Changkhonba Meitei, along with a mobile phone from his possession.
In a separate operation, a cadre of the National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM), identified as Ningthoujam Thoiba Meitei alias Ton (27) of Khumujamba Leikai, Churachandpur district, currently residing at New Checkon in Imphal East, was arrested from the Checkon Crossing area under Porompat Police Station. Police said several incriminating documents were seized from him.
In the third arrest, security forces detained a member of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), identified as Toijam Sanamani Meetei (48) of Nongada Awang Leikai in Imphal East district from the Nongada Makha Leikai area under Lamlai Police Station.
The arrests were made following the recovery of an IED from the Tronglaobi Maning Gurukhana area under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur district. Seized materials included a wireless control relay switch with five batteries, six plastic pouches containing gunpowder, 12.75 metres of red wire, 33.87 metres of safety fuse wire, two detonators and 208 cm of white electric wire.
