Security forces in Manipur dismantled two insurgent group camps and arrested a top militant cadre during operations in the state.

Imphal: Security forces in Manipur dismantled two insurgent group camps, seized a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, and arrested a top militant cadre during operations carried out over the past 36 hours in the state, officials said on Tuesday.

Camp destroyed in Chandel

In the first counter-insurgency operation, forces destroyed a militant camp located between T. Bollok and L. Molhoi villages under Chakpikarong police station in Chandel district, said officials.

Items recovered from the site included one G-3 rifle with an empty magazine, three country-made Lathode guns, two single-barrel guns, three locally made Pompi shells, four Pompi guns, two locally made carbines with empty magazines, two magazine pouches, 55 rounds of 7.62 mm AK ammunition, eight Baofeng radio sets, and a dagger with its sheath.

Arms recovered in Thoubal

In a separate operation at Tentha Erel Ching under Khongjom police station in Thoubal district, security personnel recovered one SMG carbine with a magazine, three bolt-action rifles, two single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) guns, a .32 pistol with a magazine, one .32 live round, one 9 mm blank cartridge, and three helmets.

Senior KCP-MFL rebel arrested

In the third operation, joint forces arrested an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Partyโ€“Meeyambi Feengang Lanmee (KCP-MFL) from Lamlai Mamang Leikai Samu Lambel under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district.

The arrested individual has been identified as 55-year-old Khaidem Joychandra Meitei, alias Inaocha, a resident of Lamlai Mayai Leikai. Fifty rounds of 7.62×39 mm AK live ammunition were seized from his possession.

Security forces have intensified search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable and fringe areas across hill and valley districts. Additional arms and ammunition were recovered during these operations.

Officials said 115 nakas (checkpoints) have been set up across Manipur, while the movement of 306 vehicles carrying essential commodities along NH-37 has been facilitated to ensure uninterrupted supply lines.
