Imphal: Following the nationwide release of the 23rd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on June 20, the Manipur government announced that Rs 1.36 crore has been credited to the bank accounts of 6,806 eligible farmers across the state through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The installment was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event held in Tarakeswar, West Bengal. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh watched the live telecast of the programme and welcomed the continued support being extended to the farming community through the flagship central scheme.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister said the PM-KISAN scheme has played a significant role in strengthening the livelihoods and economic security of farmers, whom he described as the backbone of the country’s economy. Under the scheme, eligible farmer families receive financial assistance of Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments.
Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture, Manipur, has intensified efforts to ensure that eligible beneficiaries continue receiving the assistance without interruption. Officials have made electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) verification and the updating of land records mandatory to avail the benefits under the scheme.
To facilitate compliance, the department launched a statewide land record updation drive on June 15. Farmers have been urged to complete their eKYC either through the official PM-KISAN portal using OTP authentication or by visiting the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) for biometric verification.
Authorities have also advised farmers to visit designated help desks set up at fertiliser distribution centres with their Aadhaar cards and the latest land ownership documents, including Jamabandi records. In hill districts, valid land certificates issued by village authorities and authenticated by the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) are being accepted.
Officials further informed that benefits have been temporarily withheld in cases where land was acquired after February 1, 2019, or where multiple members of the same family have applied for assistance, pending physical verification.
The state government is also conducting awareness and registration drives at the grassroots level, particularly in districts such as Ukhrul and Kamjong, to increase enrolment in PM-KISAN and other welfare schemes that support farmers and rural households.
