Imphal: A total of 229 cases involving a settlement amount of Rs 3,18,40,938 were resolved during the second National Lok Adalat of the 2026 calendar year, conducted across all District Courts and the High Court of Manipur on Saturday.
The matters taken up during the Lok Adalat included both pre-litigation disputes and pending civil cases such as original suits, money recovery matters, bank recovery cases, matrimonial disputes, MACT cases, and other civil-related issues.
The programme was organised by the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in collaboration with the High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) and various District Legal Services Authorities.
Justice A Bimol Singh, Executive Chairman of MASLSA, along with Justice A Guneshwar Sharma, Judge of the High Court of Manipur, reviewed the proceedings during the event.
Justice A Bimol Singh said that 37 pending court cases and nearly 2,385 pre-litigation matters had been placed before the Lok Adalat for settlement. While distributing Lok Adalat awards to several parties who successfully resolved their disputes, he observed that traditional litigation often involves lengthy legal processes and heavy expenses, with some cases continuing for decades.
He highlighted that Lok Adalat offers a quicker, affordable, and amicable method for dispute resolution. He also underlined the growing importance of mediation as an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism in Manipur, stating that such methods play a key role in reducing the backlog of cases in courts.
