Manipur Forest and Environment Minister, Th Shyamkumar’s son, Th Satyajit was arrested on charges of rash driving and injuring two policemen on duty in the process.

He was later remanded to three days in police custody.

The accused Th Satyajit, 23, was charged with criminal assault to deter public servants from discharging their duty, rash driving and endangering personal safety of others under section 353/279/338 of the IPC.

The minister’s son had injured the policemen on duty on Friday afternoon around 2:30 pm during a high speed chase with the police in the busy MG Avenue in Imphal.

According to witnesses, a black Honda City car that was speeding towards the highway was chased by a police vehicle.

Another police vehicle, laying in wait to stop the accused car had signalled the car to stop at the junction of the highway. However, instead of stopping the car rammed into the police personnel and sped away, according to witnesses.

Later, the car was stopped in front of Minister Th Shyamkumar’s quarter, a few hundred metres away from the scene of incident where the police personnel were knocked down.

Later, the man behind the wheels was dragged out of the vehicle and taken into custody by the police.

It was later found out that the driver was the son of Shyamkumar.

The injured policemen have been identified as one T Akhup Kom, aged around 41 years and hailing from Thayong village and the other one is Ningthoujam Anilkumar, aged around 28 years of Kodompkpi Mamang Leikai.

Both of them were left with fractured legs.

Later, the police lodged a complaint against the Minister’s son late in the night.
