MANITEX will be held from November 5 to 15 next at Lamboi Khongnangkhong in Manipur. In Manipur, handloom and handicrafts is a tradition. Manipur is among the States which boasts of the highest number of weavers and looms. Every household be it in the hills or in the valleys, has a loom and handloom and handicrafts helps keep the home fires burning in several households of the State.
The weavers of Manipur are “extremely talented” and keeping this factor in mind, the State Government decided to organise the said expo as international expo with twin purpose – to provide a platform to the weavers for exposure and to give exposure to the local products at the international level.
Handloom and handicrafts help majorly in the socio-economic development of the society. Through the expo, the N Biren Singh Government wants to promote the ‘Made in India’ policy of the Modi Government – to encourage and promote handloom products.
