Imphal: Amid persistent monsoon rains across Senapati district, the Manipur government has issued a high-alert advisory, urging residents to remain vigilant as the risk of flooding and landslides increases.
Continuous rainfall associated with the southwest monsoon has led to rising concerns over swelling river levels and the possibility of landslides in the district’s vulnerable hilly regions. According to forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), widespread rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to continue in the coming days.
Authorities have warned that prolonged precipitation has left the soil heavily saturated, heightening the likelihood of flash floods, landslips, and road blockages. The district administration has advised people living near riverbanks and in landslide-prone areas to take precautionary measures and stay alert. Commuters have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel on hilly roads during periods of intense rainfall.
While heavy rainfall is common during the monsoon season, recent localized storms have intensified concerns about potential damage to agriculture, public infrastructure and rural connectivity. Community representatives have previously expressed concern over unresolved flood-related losses and delays in relief assistance from past disasters, prompting calls for stronger preventive action.
Residents have been encouraged to monitor official weather updates regularly and follow advisories issued by relevant authorities. Disaster management teams remain on standby, and the public has been asked to report emergencies promptly to local officials.
