A Manipur Police head constable was killed during an anti-drug operation in Manipurโ€™s Thoubal district; a suspect was arrested with capsules.

Imphal: A Manipur Police head constable was killed during an anti-drug operation on Wednesday night, while a suspected drug dealer was later arrested with banned pharmaceutical capsules during separate enforcement actions in Manipurโ€™s Thoubal district, officials said on Thursday.

According to police, Head Constable Khoirom Suresh, attached to the Thoubal district commando unit, died after being stabbed while attempting to apprehend a suspected drug peddler at Moijing Meena Bazar Thongkhong under Thoubal Police Station limits around 8 pm.

He sustained critical injuries during the operation and was immediately shifted to Thoubal District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

In a related enforcement drive, police conducted frisking and vehicle checks at Lilong Dam near Nungei under Lilong Police Station, leading to the arrest of MM Warish (33), a resident of Lilong Nungei.

Officials said 18 strips of suspected Serratiopeptidase (SP) capsules weighing around 115 grams were recovered from his possession, along with a two-wheeler used in the movement.

Cases have been registered in both incidents, and further investigation is underway.
