Governor of Manipur, Dr Najma Heptulla conveyed heartiest greetings to the people of the State, particularly the Kuki-Chin-Mizo brethren on the happy and auspicious occasion of Kut Festival on Thursday.
The Governor in her message, said the post harvest festival of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo ‘Chavang Kut’ is celebrated across the State of Manipur for thanksgiving and gratitude to the Almighty for a bountiful harvest.
The festival also witnesses the performances or rich cultural items of different communities belonging to the Chin-Kuki-Mizo and spreads the message of peace, communal harmony, friendship and brotherhood amongst various communities living in the Northeast in general and Manipur in particular, it said.
“On this auspicious occasion, let us forget all differences and work together to usher in a peaceful and prosperous Manipur and also strengthen the age old glorious tradition of peaceful co-existence among various communities in the state,” it added.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated in his message that Kut, the biggest festival of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo group of people, is an occasion of thanksgiving to God for the bountiful harvest.
The spirit of Kut is about sharing, understanding, harmonious co-existence, co-operation and merriment. Kut festival, a post harvest festival, has now become a prominent festival of Manipur because of its secular and all-encompassing nature of the celebration, it said.
“Let Kut 2018 spread the message of love, peace, compassion and forgiveness among the people of Manipur. I am confident that the celebration of the festival in its true spirit will help in ensuring peaceful co-existence among all the ethnic groups, the age-old tradition of the people of the State,” it added.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Gaikhangam has also extended his best wishes to the Chin-Kuki-Mizo groups.
Gaikhangam wished that the Kut festival may bring peace, harmony and prosperity to the State.
