Imphal: The Manipur government on Thursday revised the wholesale and retail prices of 17 essential commodities in five valley districts of the state.

Joint Secretary of Manipur Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution department, Robertson Asem, in an order said the revised rates will be applicable in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts under Section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 with immediate effect, and will remain in force until further orders.

The price revision is due to vehicles carrying essential commodities to the state being stranded at the Mao checkgate on the Manipur-Nagaland border for the past 13 days.

Several organisations have imposed an indefinite blockade restricting movement of all commercial vehicles in the state’s Senapati district since November 2.

The blockade was imposed to protest the assault of two Naga youths in Imphal West district’s Lamsang on October 30 this year.
