The Manipur Governor, Dr Najma Heptulla, has sung paeans of praise for Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long (ITSL) saying it has been rendering creditable service for spreading education among the Tangkhul women and taking up various activities of social service.
Informing this in her Twitter handle on Saturday, she stated, “Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long (ITSL) has been rendering creditable service for spreading education among the Tangkhul women and taking up various activities of social service”.
Heptulla also appealed to the Tangkhul Shanao Long, a Tangkhul women’s body of Imphal, to continue with its endeavor to spread education among the womenfolk. The Governor was addressing the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the women’s body at the Manipur Baptist Convention Recreation Centre in Imphal on Saturday.
Heptulla further stated that to truly empower women in the society, “education is a must”. She also asked Tangkhul Shanao Long to lead by organising training and awareness camps for women, especially for those living in the far-flung areas. She stated that once these women acquired the requisite skills, they would be in a position to contribute to keep the home fires burning as well as live a life of self-respect and dignity in the society. She further stated that the services rendered by the said women’s organisation would go a long way in making lives more liveable for the many Tangkhul women of Manipur.
The Governor further remarked that the Tangkhul society has a rich culture and it was “good to see that the Tangkhul womenfolk are making sincere efforts for the preservation and enrichment of their cultural heritage”.
