A six-month free remedial coaching programme under Chief Minister’s Lairik Yengminnasi Programme 2017-18 was launched in Manipur on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said there is nothing impossible to achieve if one puts in effort with a firm determination.

Stating that the remedial coaching was conducted with an objective to provide tuition facility to the students belonging to minority, OBC and SC communities, Biren said that the present Government had already taken up many social security schemes for the needy and poor people.

He said that the free remedial coaching programme was also part of one such scheme which would benefit the students belonging to less privileged sections of the society.

Informing that 83 government teachers and 71 private sector teachers had been engaged for the said coaching programme he stated Rs 74 lakh has been earmarked for this particular scheme. The government teachers for Classes VI-X students would be given a monthly remuneration of Rs 5,000 per month while government teachers for Classes XI-XII would get Rs 6,000 per month.

On the other hand, private sector teachers for Classes VI-X would be given a monthly remuneration of Rs 8,000 per month while government teachers for Classes XI-XII would get Rs 10,000 per month, the Chief Minister said.

The scheme which was launched will be implemented by Manipur Minorities and OBC Economic Development Society (MOBEDS) under the Department for Welfare of Minorities, OBCs and Scheduled Castes (MOBC & SC).

The programme aims at achieving quality education by all students regardless of poor or rich. Infrastructure of the government schools will be utilised in running the coaching programme. Coaching will be conducted from 6 am to 8:30 am in three subjects – Science, Maths and English. The classes that will be covered under this scheme are – Category A (Class VI to X) and Category B (Class XI and XII Science).

Principal Secretary (MOBC and SC) PK Singh, Director (MOBC and SC) Kh Dineshchandra Singh and other high ranking officials of the department were present at the launching function held at Durbar Hall of Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal.
