Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh inspected the condition of Imphal river banks and ongoing dredging works being taken up along the river at Singjamei, Thongju and Yaiskul Assembly Constituencies on Sunday.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand and Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip were also present there. The Chief Minister was accompanied by high ranking officials of the State Government.
It may be mentioned that dismantling and eviction of houses, shops and other unauthorized structures is being carried out apart from dredging of riverbeds and strengthening of embankments by the State Government to combat flash floods.
The step of the BJP led coalition government was necessitated after the state faced five times flood and landslides across the state in May to July 2017 and damaged a large agricultural area and destroyed crores of rupees worth properties.
N Biren Singh led team mainly inspected areas such as Singjamei Oinam Thingel, Waikhom Leikai, Mongkhang Lambi, Torban Kshetri Leikai, Singjamei Chirom Leikai,Singjamei Chongtham Leikai, Thokchom Leikai and Loklaobung etc.
Deputy Commissioner Haobam Rosita Devi of Thoubal district informed that “Go to Village” mission would be launched simultaneously in all the six Assembly constituencies within Thoubal District on May 1, 2018. Altogether 61 villages would be covered under the mission in the district.
DC Rosita further informed that campus would be opened between 8 am and 4 pm at six venues, namely, Nganglou Loukon Bazar, Haoreibi village (Lilong Assembly Constituency), Leishangthem (Thoubal Assembly Constituency) Wangkhem Bazar Community Hall (Wangkhem Assembly Constituency), Leirongthel Ningel G.P. Mayai Keithel and Manjangkhong (Heirok Assembly Constituency), Langathel (Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituency) and Sangaiyumpham Pt.1 (Khangabok Assembly Constituency).
She also instructed the teams formed for the mission to prepare hoardings, pamphlets etc highlighting the schemes in local dialects for display at the venues.
